Why Have Modular Smartphones Failed?
I think innovative cases are the future of modular phones. For example if Apple includes smart connectors on the iPhone--their could be modular like cases to be used on the iPhone. This would carry the concept of modularity with out actually making the phone itself modular. I think something like this is more reasonable. Being able to use the ports that are there do add a lot of benefits. For example if there were smart connectors on both the top and the bottom of the back of the iPhone along with use of a usb type c connector, you could possibly have a gaming controller switch style case, that could be used for gaming with say the Mac or the Apple TV or just the phone itself. I don't think the modular concept is dead it is just adapting. The base does need to stay solid on its own, but having the ability to add onto it would be good!
